Get Website Traffic - Start For Free

Every one wants to get website traffic. The point to consider is, ‘where should we start’ in our quest to get more traffic? First, don’t go out and spend any money on expensive courses until you have looked at all your options. There are some good courses out there that will teach you the different methods to get traffic, that’s for sure. Like anything how-ever, there are some good ones and there are some bad ones.

I have spent countless dollars on programs that did not work (you could say, I had more dollars than sense!) What I had to do was to step back from the oven for a while to see what was cooking. In other words take some time out to regroup before spending any more money.

You can actually start to build up your website traffic on an extremely small budget (if any at all). There are a few ways to get lots of free traffic, we just have to ask the right questions.

Take it from one who has spent the last few years searching for the perfect way to get website traffic. I have finally found (it was staring me in the face) that it is true that by writing and publishing your own articles, your traffic to your website will increase accordingly.

Writing an article is rather like talking to an old friend, its just that you are writing it down. There are people who need to know what you know, your knowledge is in great demand. By writing down a few words (about 400 more of less) you have an opportunity to do two things. One, help people in a similar situation with some solutions to their problem and two, get a heap of free traffic as well.

Make sure of course that you sign each article with your website URL. In real terms, there will be about ten percent of all your article readers that will click through to your website. A smaller percentage again will also buy what you are selling. This is an economical way to get website traffic.

Customizing Your Site Map

by Ferdinand Emy

A sitemap of a website is similar to the table of contents of a book. Sitemaps are important because they guide web surfers to the particular location of the website they are interested in. With it they would save time following links and getting right to the page the information they are looking for is on.

Sitemaps are also where search engines consider if someone is on the lookout for a particular keyword or phrase. If you have a site map,you would likely be searched.

Making a sitemap, now with software engineering surging in,is comparatively more comfortable than before. You need not be a programming guru to make one. All you need is a notepad,a program editor, and patience. here is how you do it:

Make the listing on a notepad. It does not necessarily has to be a notepad. Any word processing program will do. First, list all the category and the main components of your website. Include all pages and all links you have. Make it as if you are listing the contents of your book. Make a draft initial. Make sure you are not missing anything.

Make a new page for your sitemap. You may insert the sitemap on your website on one of its pages or you may manufacture an wholly dissimilar page for it. Using your notepad, integrate all tags rudimentary and essential to it to make another web-page. Open up your website creator program and tag your sitemap using it. if you have formulated your website by yourself, this are going to be easy for you.

Make a link for the sitemap. You wont be capable of viewing the sitemap if you will not put a link for it. Place the link on the front page of your website so that visitants may view it right away and be directed appropriately.

Check your work. It is crucial to validate the functionality of the links you formulated on the sitemap. Test every link there and if you get an error, make sure you repair it accurately. Run through each single page to ascertain that all are accounted for.

Subjects for Your Online Polls

by Rashelle Colsinger

So you checked out Polldaddy or WP-Polls (or even ilovepolls.com) and it’s all configured and set to go. You want to go live this week. You’re a bit nervous and a bit excited and a lot hopeful all rolled into one. So, what subject do you plan on asking about?

Simple. what moves and motivates you in life? What motivates you may also motivate others. My expert opinion, however, is that you should make the topic as broad as you can when you first start out in this business.

For example, if you are a NASCAR fan and want to ask “which NASCAR pit crew is the best? Many people know and occasionally watch NASCAR on the television. Most won’t know which pit crew belongs to which driver. So, you might want to broaden it to ask “which NASCAR driver will take it all this year?”

Of course, it’s acceptable to narrow the topic after you start to get regular contributors and visitors. If so, the detailed question approach is appropriate. My line of questioning above is for when you are first beginning to get a following.

A second common way of selecting subject matter scan the headlines of news shows and the major networks. You don’t need to dive into much of the details to get an general feel for what is being discussed and reported (or what the print and communications medium wants you to hear and read).

First, select your general subject. As I type this, President Obama is in the country of Egypt. The President of the United States and Egypt are two great starting points. Middle East Peace is another. Oil is still another.

Begin to narrow down the topics. Is there any kind of controversy with the President and Egypt, the Middle East, drilling for oil? There are tons of possibilities. Next, are there are other players involved (other nations, other issues, other leaders). In the example above, Islam would be a good general topic under Egypt because that is one of the reasons the President of the United States is going there. What are his goals for the trip? Are those goals achievable?

Finally, brainstorm for a question. I could ask, “will there ever be Middle East peace in the near future?” Or “Should Middle East lower oil prices?” or lastly “Is the President of the United States a Muslim?”

Again, you want to create controversy. As they say, controversy sells. Think about it. When people get engaged in a controversy, most sides of the issue comes out.

by Florentina Ryan

Bloggers have realized that if they get their blog on the homepage of digg or Netscape thousands of companies and guests will overflow or flood into their blog within minutes. So the problem is, how can digg and Netscape be leveraged for traffic, and what outcome can you see from them. Blogs, forums, and social networking websites all let you make a profile. Take full advantage of this and use your profile page to persuade visitors to read more of your content.

Digg recently released a feature that frames all pages linked from Digg. Instead of linking straight to the URL of a story, theyre linking to something like digg.com/d1npNz , and then embed an Iframe which contains the original page. Digg users are making a popular article and it is logical that they would want to see other successful posts from the author

Digg is a popular site that is great for traffic building, especially if you reach the front page where you will experience a huge surge in traffic. Digg has grown large enough that submissions sometimes generate an unexpected boost of traffic to the “dugg” website. This is referred to by some Digg users as the “Digg effect “and by some others as the site being “dugg to death”.

Diggs traffic has decreased to a very low level since they apply their algorithm change. Alexa commented that traffic of Digg is 3 times worse than they had been few months ago. Digg may or may not have affirmative /positive effects on your google page rank. Digg is a popular site

Analyzing Website Traffic

Analyzing your web traffic statistics can be an invaluable
tool for a number of different reasons. But before you can
make full use of this tool, you need to understand how to
interpret the data.

Most web hosting companies will provide you with basic web
traffic information that you then have to interpret and
make pertinent use of. However, the data you receive from
your host company can be overwhelming if you don’t
understand how to apply it to your particular business and
website. Let’s start by examining the most basic data - the
average visitors to your site on a daily, weekly, and
monthly basis.

These figures are the most accurate measure of your
website’s activity. It would appear on the surface that the
more traffic you see recorded, the better you can assume
your website is doing, but this is an inaccurate
perception. You must also look at the behavior of your
visitors once they come to your website to accurately gauge
the effectiveness of your site.

There is often a great misconception about what is commonly
known as “hits” and what is really effective, quality
traffic to your site. Hits simply means the number of
information requests received by the server. If you think
about the fact that a hit can simply equate to the number
of graphics per page, you will get an idea of how overblown
the concept of hits can be. For example, if your homepage
has 15 graphics on it, the server records this as 15 hits,
when in reality we are talking about a single visitor
checking out a single page on your site. As you can see,
hits are not useful in analyzing your website traffic.

Increasing Your Search Engine Ranking

The methods employed to increase your search engine
rankings may seem like rocket science to you, so you have
probably avoided dealing with this issue. I am here to tell
you - the time has come to face your website! A high search
engine ranking for your website is so essential that if you
have the slightest desire to actually succeed in your
business, there is no way you can continue to avoid this
issue.

At least 85% of people looking for goods and services on
the Internet find websites through search engines such as
Google, Yahoo, and MSN. The idea of optimizing your pages
for high search engine rankings is to attract targeted
customers to your site who will be more than likely to make
a purchase. The higher your page comes up in search engine
results, the greater the traffic that is directed to your
website. That’s what search engine optimization is about.

You can immerse yourself in all the technical information
available online to figure out how to optimize your web
pages to achieve higher rankings. Or you can look at a few
simple items on your pages, make some small adjustments,
and most likely see improved rankings quite rapidly. The
first item you should examine is the title bar on your
homepage.

The title bar is the colored bar at the top of the page.
Look at the words that appear there when you access your
home page. To increase search engine rankings, the words on
your homepage’s title bar should include the most important
keywords or phrases, one of which would include your
company name.

Ebooks are Promotional Powerhouses

Ebooks are part of the new frontier of cyberspace.
They are an entirely new medium for sharing marketing
information, ideas, techniques, and expert knowledge.
Each day the number of people accessing the Internet
grows, causing the exposure of your ebook to increase
incrementally. It’s obvious why electronic
self-publishing has become so popular so quickly.

The publishing industry, I hope, does not intend to
forever banish the printed word to the dustbin of
history. Books in print have their own special
qualities and merits, and the world would be
diminished by their disappearance.

Having said that, let’s look at what makes ebooks so
important and so unique. Ebooks have certain abilities
and qualities that other mediums do not possess.

For example, ebooks are fairly easy to produce, and
their production cost is inexpensive. Just think about
it: you don’t need a publisher, an agent, a printing
press, offset film, ink, paper, or even a distributor.
You just need a great concept, the ability to write it
or to hire a writer, and the right software.
